We were lucky enough to see Leopard Sharks and Black Tip Reef Sharks on both dives - the Liquid Lense team were loving all the shark action, and were a very happy bunch!

Ko Phi Phi is located about 22 km west of Ko Lanta and the rugged limestone cliffs plunging into aquamarine waters make Phi Phi an unforgettable destination. Underwater, the scenery only becomes more breathtaking.

With long caves, dramatic overhangs, walls that go down to 30 m and a fabulous display of hard and soft coral, the diving around Phi Phi is varied and spectacular.

Footage courtesy of Liquid Lense & Scubafish.

From an underwater photography perspective, Ko Phi Phi dive sites – especially the Bidah Islands, are a photographer’s or videographer’s paradise! So much can be found in such a small area, from macro delights, such as tiny Juvenile Harliquin Sweetlips dancing in the corals, to Seahorses, Pipefish, Shrimp, White-Eyed Morays and Ribbon Eels.

The islands are also home to lots of resident Hawksbill Turtles who can be seen on all the dive sites around Phi Phi, especially on the north side of Phi Phi Lay.

The dive sites at Ko Phi Phi also provide an excellent chance to photograph larger fish such as Black-Tip Reef Sharks and Leopard Sharks.

These docile, nocturnal creatures are normally found lying on the sand facing into the current; they are one of only four species of shark that doesn’t need to keep swimming in order to breathe. They like to eat crustaceans, small fish and sea snakes.

Surprisingly little else is known about the species, although they are believed to be closely related to the Whale Shark. They can grow up to 3.5 meters and are completely harmless to humans.

The Leopard Sharks at Phi Phi will let you get quite close, so long as you dont rush in and spook them. Take your time, approach them slowly and come away with some fantastic pictures to make you proud!

Hin Muang or ‘Purple Rock’ – is known as the Lanta Manta Cleaning Station and Whale Shark Navigation Point. Located 70km south of Ko Lanta, it boasts good visibility, unless the waters become extremely plankton-rich. It is this plankton that attracts the larger marine-life and there is a high chance of seeing Manta Rays and passing Whalesharks throughout the season.

Hin Muang is completely submerged and derives its name from the vast number of purple corals covering the pinnacle.

The dive site is home to ‘The Chimney’, an eerie underwater tunnel starting at 17 metres and rising all the way to 6 metres, where a school of sweepers glint in the piercing rays of the sun.

Ko Haa 1 is the deepest of all the Ko Haa dive sites and is very popular with experienced divers. The dive site is home to ‘The Chimney‘, an eerie underwater tunnel starting at 17 metres and rising all the way to a chamber at 5 metres, where a school of sweepers glint in the piercing rays of the sun.

The south side is made up of large, coral covered boulders with enough swim-throughs and macro delights to keep divers happy for hours. The north and east of the island are reef slopes covered in Corals & Anemones, with beautiful schools of Snapper & a great chance to meet a local Hawksbill Turtle.

The south-west side of the island is a spectacular wall dive, with plenty of action in the blue & even a chance to see a Marble Ray or maybe even a Leopard Shark.

The dive sites at Ko Phi Phi provide an excellent chance to photograph larger fish such as Black-Tip Reef Sharks and Leopard Sharks.

The beautiful Bidah islands dive sites are home to an incredibly diverse collection of marine life and breath-taking seafans & coral gardens.

They are one of the best dive sites in Thailand to see Leopard Sharks and have a healthy local population of these graceful creatures. Shark Point is one of the most famous dive sites of the area and justifiably so. Actually made up of two pinnacles, only one of which breaks the surface - it is home to incredibly healthy reefs, with many different types of corals, most notably fields of gorgonian seafans and colourful soft corals, huge barrel sponges & a level of diversity that is hard to match anywhere in the world.

Enjoy Cuttlefish, Lionfish, Octopus, many different species of Morays, Nudibranches, Shrimps, Crabs, not to mention the chance to see the Leopard Sharks that gave this site its name.
