Ko Haa Lagoon

Ko Haa Lagoon is the central area of the five islands of Ko Haa. Due to its shallow waters and calm conditions, this site is a photographers dream and is one of the best sites in the area for finding macro delights such as Ornate Ghost Pipefish & Harlequin Shrimps.

Cruising into the picture perfect lagoon of Ko Haa is a treat for novices & experienced divers alike. With its little white sand beach, stunning karst islands & crystal clear waters, it never fails to amaze.

The shallow, crystal-clear water allows perfect conditions for beautiful reef scapes to form. It is home to an abundance of reef fish, such as Porky, the resident & very curious Porcupine Pufferfish, who is always up for getting his photo taken! Clownfish (aka Nemo), Lionfish, Scorpionfish, Snapper, Bannerfish, Barracuda & even rare Hawksbill Turtles live here.

The large Table Coral close to Island #4 is a beautiful subject for photography and videography. It is full of little glinting damsel fish swimming into the current, who dart into the protection of the coral when spooked, then cautiously come back out when they feel safe again.

Ko Haa Lagoon Dive Site at a GlanceThe bright sandy bottom of the Lagoon is full of surprises. The suns reflection on the waters surface is mirrored on sand, creating fascinating patterns. Swimming around this shallow area, you can find some weird and wonderful creatures. Keep your eyes open for the camoflaged and elusive Seamoths, most often found in pairs, Devil Scorpionfish, Indian Ocean Walkmen, Spearing Mantis Shrimps and hiding in some of the corals, Frogfish can be found.

Come out of the shallows of the Lagoon and make your way round the Islands, where you will find beautiful walls covered in colourful soft corals, schools of Snapper and large rocks which are often covered in hundreds of Glassfish being hunted by Trevallies. Island #2 is home to a huge school of Fortsters Barracuda who seem to be intrigued by divers and come in close for a good look. They make brilliant models for portrait and silhouette shots.

The natural light which floods into the Lagoon creates the perfect backdrop for making beautiful pictures, casting shadows and highlighting the vibrancy of the underwater world. It is an ideal area for divers taking their first photos underwater as well as for the more experienced photographer.
